10. Tesco Hudl 2 review : 129£
10 best Android tablets in the world |
It's really cheap, but it's really rather nice
Weight: 410g | Dimensions: 224 x 128 x 9.14 | OS: Android 4.4.2 | Screen size: 8.3-inch |Resolution: 1920 x 1200 | CPU: Quad-core 1.83GHz | RAM: 2GB | Storage: 16GB | Battery:5710mAh | Rear camera: 5MP | Front camera: 1.2MP

It doesn't take a huge wad of cash to secure an Android tablet nowadays, but the experience at the budget end of the market can be frustratingly bad. It was only a matter time before someone aside from Google managed to produce a halfway decent, budget tablet, offering the full Android experience, but who knew it would be Tesco?
If you're looking for a tablet for the kids, something cheap to use around the house, or an affordable option for the tablet-virgin in your life, the Tesco Hudl 2 is going be downright impossible to ignore.
10 best Android tablets in the world |
This is an accessible device with an HD display, solid build quality, and almost unadulterated Android 4.4 KitKat - although it looks highly unlikely that this tablet will be getting Android Lollipop anytime soon.
You won't be shocked to find that the Hudl 2 costs less than half the price of the iPad mini 3, but it's also much cheaper than the Nexus 7 - which also isn't getting the latest Android update, although it did get a taste of Lollipop. Every little helps indeed.

Building on the success of the original (and now discontinued) Hudl, Tesco's Hudl 2 is bigger and better in almost every way. There's a larger 8.3-inch HD screen, a quad-core processor that Tesco claims is three times faster, double the RAM at 2GB, and a slightly improved 5MP camera.
I did not expect to be charmed by the Hudl 2. It now only costs £99 (it launched at £129)

Colours are rich and vibrant, text is sharp and easy to read, and you can happily watch movies, game, or read on it for hours.
I can hold the tablet one-handed for short periods, but if you're reading or watching a movie you'll want to prop it or your arm is going to get tired. Two hands are obviously a necessity for navigation.
Tesco Hudl 2 review
It does feel nicely balanced and it's satisfyingly slim. The soft touch coating on the back wraps around the sides adding grip and making it very comfortable to hold.
It feels most natural to hold it in landscape and the larger bezels at either end make this easy to do without obscuring the screen.
Flip around to the back and you'll find a metallic embossed Hudl logo in the centre. Two fairly large speaker grills dominate either end and the camera lens sits above the right speaker grill at the top corner.
Tesco Hudl 2 review
Still holding it in landscape, the left edge of the Hudl 2 plays host to a standard 3.5mm headphone port. The right has the micro USB port for file transfer and charging.
Up top there's a volume rocker with a power button just beneath it. The buttons are plastic and they have a decent amount of travel. It's not hard to find and use them in the dark.
The bottom edge includes an open microSD card slot for storage expansion with cards up to 32GB in size. It looks a little odd that the port is open and you can expect a bit of dust collection if you don't use it, but it's fairly unobtrusive.
Tesco Hudl 2 review
Further along towards the middle of the bottom edge there's a surprise micro-HDMI out connection so that you can plug your Hudl 2 directly into your TV. This is a rarity on tablets nowadays and it's one that some people will appreciate because it makes it very easy to play content from your tablet on the big screen.
The Hudl 2 feels surprisingly premium and it looks good too. I had the black model for review, but you can add some colour if you prefer as it's available in blue, turquoise, orange, pink, purple, red, or white.
Based on the design alone I would never have guessed that this tablet was so cheap.
9. Samsung Tab Pro 10.1 : $951.50
10 best Android tablets in the world |
The Galaxy Tab Pro middle child
Weight: 469g | Dimensions: 243.1 x 171.4 x 7.3mm | OS: Android 4.4 | Screen size: 10.1-inches |Resolution: 2560 x 1600 | CPU: Quad-core 1.9GHz | RAM:2GB | Storage: 16/32GB | Battery:8220mAh | Rear camera: 8MP | Front camera: 2MP
The Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 feels like it contains a misnomer: sure, there are professional elements contained within, but this is a direct rival to the likes of the best consumer slates out there.
10 best Android tablets in the world |
The Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2 and Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 may overshadow the competition thanks to their sheer stature, but the Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 and Tab Pro 8.4 provide a strong backbone to the new "Pro" range.
Samsung's Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 sits quite firmly against the more traditional tablet, aiming to take a hefty swipe at the dominance of the iPad Air, the Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet and Microsoft's own Surface 2.
You could make a case for the Tab Pro 10.1 to carry an even higher price tag than the iPad Air given its marketing angle. The "Pro" moniker definitely hints at the business market, aimed more as a working tablet than for casual web browsing in front of the television.
This is backed up by the inclusion of Samsung's e-Meeting and Remote PC apps, as well as Cisco's WebEx.
That said, casual users will be drawn to Samsung's offering thanks to some hefty internal grunt and a suitably impressive screen.

Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 10 1 review
The Samsung tradition of eschewing metal products for a plastic back is continued in the white Tab Pro 10.1 I have in my hands, as is the same faux leather and stitch effect on the rear that was first seen on the Galaxy Note 3.
Initially I found this to be a bit disappointing but the textured plastic is actually rather pleasant to hold and I soon found myself drawn to the stitch effect. Love it or hate it, it's nice to see Samsung trying to break away from a traditional slab with a nod to the leather bound notebooks of old - and with the lower price tag, this seems to fit better.
It's not a premium feel, but it's a good one for gripping in a landscape mode.
10 best Android tablets in the world |
Samsung has elected to offer the Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 in both black and white, with the review model I had being the latter. In terms of a "pro" offering, I do feel that the black version is far better suited, as the white plastic seems like it would fit far better on a coffee table rather than at a desk.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 is a tablet that offers a lot, and with the lower price could be seen as real winner in the tablet market
It's an odd paradox, where the Tab Pro 10.1 shares a lot of synergy with the likes of the Galaxy S5 in terms of design, power and screen quality yet Samsung has decided that it's OK to offer a tablet at a much lower price.
If Samsung can market the Tab Pro 10.1 right, and offer some decent deals to IT departments I can see it making waves as the tablet of choice.
8. Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4

10 best Android tablets in the world |
Weight: 331g | Dimensions: 219 x 128.5 x 7.2mm | OS: Android 4.4 | Screen size: 8.4-inches |Resolution: 1600 x 2560 pixels | CPU: Quad-core 2.3 GHz |RAM: 2GB | Storage: 16/32GB | Battery:4800mAh | Rear camera: 8MP | Front camera: 2MP
A charitable sort might call Samsung's approach to tablets comprehensive, but it could just as easily be described as scattershot. The past few years have seen the launch of 7-inch, 8-inch, 10-inch, and now 12-inch devices aimed at a full range of budgets.

The company's new Pro range shows signs of the company re-applying its considerable resources to produce something a little more special.
While the Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 is expensive and a little creaky, it's an undeniably powerful piece of kit with a much improved custom UI.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 takes many of the stylistic cues and components from that super-sized powerhouse and packages it in a decidedly more compact and versatile shell. The result is one of Samsung's best tablets to date.
Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4
But with a formidable rival in the iPad mini 2, is that enough? Starting from £349 ($400 or around AUS$440) for the 16GB model, the Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 is more expensive than Apple's class-leading compact tablet.

For more than two years that LG Electronics had withdrawn from the market the touch pad, after the failure of the Optimus Pad, an Android tablet with a 3D display. Here is the test of the LG G Pad 8.3, the new tablet from the South Korean manufacturer that uses a 8.3-inch screen and a thickness of 8.3 mm. A very interesting tablet, with its reduction offer (ODR), has to rise alongside the new Nexus 7 2013 terms of price positioning with only 20 euros difference (refund 50 euros on its original price of 299 euros) .
lg android 8.3 g pad grip 01
Discovery and grip at IFA in September, we can say that the LG G Pad 8.3 clearly delivers. Whether on the hardware or software part, this newcomer 8.3 inches certainly meet the most demanding expectations. At the same time, when you have a tablet with a 8.3 inch screen with 1920 x 1200 pixels, a quad-heart Snapdragon processor 600 running at 1.7GHz, 2GB of RAM and paraphernalia of a high-end tablet, it is reasonable to expect performance that are worth it!

What's this? LG in the top ten for smartphones and tablets? Could the brand be on a rebound? Well, when you make an Android tablet with a design language like this one, perhaps it's time to quietly worry at Samsung. In place of plastic, it's got a lovely aluminium shell, and connectivity with other Android phones makes it a viable option for a wider range of users - you can receive and reply to texts direct from the G Pad 8.3.

For its second version of its 10-inch tablet, called Yoga Tablet 10 HD +, the manufacturer Lenovo seems to have corrected the - main - blunders that we had pointed at the first model (read review of the Lenovo Yoga Tablet 10). In terms of improvements: a screen now Full HD (720p against for the old model), a small rise and a photo sensor with more pixels (8 megapixels instead of 5), said to offer better shots. Between promise or reality, we'll decide.

reality
Design side, nothing new. The Lenovo Yoga Tablet 10 HD + always has a neat finish and this small retractable foot very convenient. Thanks to him, watching videos or typing a text from the virtual keyboard is a real pleasure. The same inclination is adjustable. If that makes up the thicker tablet (2 cm), however, there was an interest: to provide good grip - despite some heavy - in portrait mode. In short, this original design makes sense to use.

Lenovo Yoga tablets took a little time to get off the ground, but the Chinese company has really upped the quality in these flexible slates.
The bulbous cylinder at one end of the tablet holds a massive 9,000mAh battery and also houses a small kickstand. It means you can position the Yoga at almost any angle, which is great for watching movies.

Last year, roughly the same period, Google and Asus succeeded a double whammy with the first Nexus 7: explode the quality / tablet market prices and justify the existence and relevance of the 7-inch slates .
A year later, here is the new Nexus 7, always designed by Asus for Google. And everything changed.

Under the IPS + touch screen 7-inch, the definition goes beyond the Full HD (1920 x 1200 pixels), there is a quad-heart Snapdragon S4 Pro chip from Qualcomm clocked at 1.4 GHz and accompanied by a RAM 2 Go. The storage capacity is available in 16 and 32 GB depending on the model and it is impossible to extend the Nexus skipping over the microSD card. The only connectors are a micro-USB port (charging and data transfer) and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Wireless connectivity is provided by the dual-band Wi-Fi a / b / g / n, Bluetooth 4.0 and NFC. The back camera is equipped with a 5 megapixel sensor (capture 1080p video), while the front side adopts a photo-video sensor of 1.2 megapixels.
Nexus forces, the operating system is Android version of pure Jelly Bean 4.3 juices.
The Nexus 7 tablet is marketed and costs 229 euros and 269 euros 16GB 32 GB.
Google Asus Nexus 7
ERGONOMICS 4/5
Slightly longer than its predecessor, the new Nexus 7 is however thinner (8.7 mm against 10.5 mm), narrower and lighter (290 g against 340 g). Grip with one hand, already effective on the first draft, becomes even more ergonomic and enjoyable on this new vintage.
Google Asus Nexus 7
Only between a bezel (black part of the slab) and a still significant edge, we feel that Google and Asus (or his next Nexus partner) have a huge room for growth for leaner.
Google Asus Nexus 7
Coating the back of the tablet is better than the first Nexus. A very thin layer of gum replaces the plastic cells of last year and we lose the assembly print 3 separate parts to win a lot more physically homogeneous, with the feel of a product designed to one piece.
Google Asus Nexus 7
The tablet does not heated even when the use requires all the strength of the product (3D video game, for example). And for those who would like the Nexus 7 holds up well anywhere in pants pocket.

SCREEN 5/5

IPS + panel is a little hobby of Asus, which refines for months, mobile product after product mobile, rendering its meters. And the Nexus 7 is no exception to this rule since the average welcome contrast reached 1175: 1, ie one of the best on the market. The maximum brightness, her crushes much of the sector with a threshold ... 557 cd / m²! That is, more or less, 200 cd / m² more that most references launched from one year. All added to a black of great depth enables use of the most pleasant indoor and outdoor, despite a fairly bright screen.
Google Asus Nexus 7
Color management also among the small circle almost perfect shelves since its average delta E of 3.1. Remember that the delta E quantifies the difference between a perfect color and the same color on the screen and the result should be as close as possible to 0 (commonly, it is considered that between 0 and 3, it is an excellent result). And here the whole color spectrum is balanced, which is all the more remarkable. Same story for the color temperature, which approaches the idea with an average of 7088 kelvins, consistent across the spectrum.
Google Asus Nexus 7
The afterglow is in tune with a very creditable result for the IPS 14 ms average. The delay of the touch panel (reaction time between a touch interaction and its inclusion on the screen), however, breaks a little ambience, with 176 ms, slightly more than double an iPad Mini , tenor mini slates on this point.
Google Asus Nexus 7
Finally, the definition is necessarily a new highlight of the Nexus 7, as 1920 x 1200 pixels by 7 inches ensure perfect readability on textual content. It also improves the user interface, with outlines of icons, menus and names chiseled applications.
INTERFACE AND NAVIGATION 5/5
No unusual interface, graphics changes, we Nexus countries and here, Android is "stock", that is to say naked without artifice or frills, but as Google designed it. This is the version 4.3 Jelly Bean Nexus 7 runs.
It is noteworthy that the largest changes in Jelly Bean are rather past generation in version 4.2, including the introduction of new components and MCCs shortcuts and notifications (up and down movement to the left of the screen for the latter, to the right of the screen for the first) ... But then brings Android 4.3? The Google Play Games platform, firstly, that apes much the iOS Game Center by grouping the results, gains and progressions of the user in its games. Play Games also allows hosting multiplayer games.
Google Asus Nexus 7
Furthermore, the Client wins two very helpful changes: passwords to access accounts (strangely absent from the inauguration of the system), and restrictions on applications to allow or deny access to the apps of their choice to other users; Note also support Bluetooth 4.0 "LE" extends the possible connection of accessories side field.
Google Asus Nexus 7
In practice, the Android experience is fluid and control the Nexus concept, in terms of hardware and software, proves that there is no need to own a warship eight-core to run Android Jelly Bean as a Swiss clock. The tablet reacts like clockwork, a joy.
If you have followed the development and release of the product in the US, probably have you heard many touch problems (failed multitouch) and Bluetooth connectivity with a recalcitrant when Wi-Fi is on. This week, Google released an update, it will probably install on receipt of the machine and which is supposed to regulate or prevent such glitches. From our side, no problems occurred. Our Bluetooth accessories responded well and various multitouch tests seem to show that the European release of the Nexus 7 is probably immune to these technical difficulties.
MULTIMEDIA 4/5
Web browsing benefits both the rapid display of pages of the definition of 1920 x 1200 pixels. The zoom (fluid, precise) is not really necessary here as the texts are displayed with clarity and precision. A successful experience regardless of the browser.
Video playback requires downloading third-party media player via the Google Play Store, to ensure maximum compatibility with all types of possible files.
Regarding high definition, it would have been unfortunate if the Nexus 7 can cope adequately with videos 720 / 1080p. Fortunately, the tablet does not suffer, be it in AVI or MKV container.
Side games, Snapdragon S4 Pro torque and Adreno 320 runs iGPU beautiful prowess, without reaching the heights of graphic mobility .

Sometimes bigger can be better - and Samsung will certainly be hoping that's the case with the huge Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 which sports a - yup you've guessed it - 12.2-inch display.
As you'll see from the name, this slate falls into Samsung's "Note" series, which means it comes equipped with an S Pen stylus, and with such a large canvas to work with it can be genuinely useful.
Unsurprisingly the Note Pro 12.2 isn't a small tablet, so it's not something you'll be carry around with you everyday, but with a meaty octa-core (yes, eight!) processor, 3GB of RAM and Android 4.4 KitKat OS it's a serious powerhouse capable of some very heavy lifting.
Google Nexus 9 :
Google's Nexus tablet is big in size and price
10 best Android tablets in the worldWeight: 425g | Dimensions: 228.2 x 153.7 x 8mm | OS: Android 5.0 | Screen size: 8.9-inches |Resolution: 1536 x 2048 | CPU: Dual-core 2.3 GHz | RAM: 2GB | Storage: 16/32GB | Battery:6700mAh | Rear camera: 8MP | Front camera:1.6MP |
Ideal 4:3 aspect ratio
Android 5.0 Lollipop
Pricier than before
Subpar display quality
It's been a while since we last had a large Nexus slate and even longer since HTC went anywhere near a tablet, yet here we are with the HTC made Nexus 9.
It was worth the wait too, thanks to a powerful 64-bit processor, BoomSound speakers, a long lasting battery and Android 5.0 onboard.
It's found itself a fairly unique size point too at 8.9 inches. Too big to be considered a small or even medium sized tablet, but some way smaller than the 10.1-inch Android slates that there are so many of. Whether that's a good or bad thing is subjective but it certainly helps it stand out.
Weight: 439g | Dimensions: 266 x 172 x 6.4mm | OS: Android 4.4.2 | Screen size: 10.1-inches |Resolution: 1200 x 1920 | CPU: Quad-core 2.3GHz | RAM:3GB | Storage: 16GB | Battery:6000mAh | Rear camera: 8.1MP | Front camera:2.2MP
High-power
Live Color screen
Screen too low-res
Sharper edges
In second place... the Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet, and to be honest it pushed the Galaxy Tab S all the way to the finish, but it was just pipped at the post.
If you haven't realised yet, the Xperia Z2 Tablet is a really good Android tablet, with a slim build and waterproof design ensuring it'll survive a trip into the bath or a bake off in a really messy kitchen.
The screen isn't quite as good as the Galaxy Tab S, nor is there a smaller version available for those who don't want to lug around a 10.1-inch offering every day - but these are minor points in what is still a very good device.
1.Samsung Galaxy Tab S

10 best Android tablets in the world |
If you're after a tablet with an impossibly great screen...this is it
Weight: 467g | Dimensions: 247.3 x 177.3 x 6.6mm | OS: Android 4.4.2 | Screen size: 10.5-inches |Resolution: 2560 x 1600 | CPU: Quad-core 2.3GHz | RAM:3GB | Storage: 16/32GB | Battery:7900mAh | Rear camera: 8MP | Front camera: 2.1MP
Excellent screen
Plenty of power
Still behind on design
Small on-board storage
The exterior design of the Tab S is nothing to write home about but it's thin and it's light and that counts for a lot when it comes to tablets. It helps the frame get out of the way of the screen, which is the real winner here.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S boasts "the best screen we've seen on a tablet" - which is no small feat. If you want to watch movies or play graphically intensive games they won't look better on any other tablet.
Available in 8.4- and 10.5-inch variants, the Tab S range packs in a 2.3GHz quad-core processor, 3GB of RAM, microSD slot, 8MP rear camera, 2.1MP front snapper and Android 4.4 KitKat.
Both tablets have fingerprint scanners for added security, but the plastic body may put a few off with Apple's slates sporting a more attractive design. But with more power and superior screens the Galaxy Tab S duo are working the iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 3 hard, really hard.
